Kombucha and Health

There is much experiential evidence from people who have been using Kombucha over many years.  Kombucha has been shown to have similar antibiotic, antiviral and antifungal properties as fermented milk products. It has been shown to protect against stress and improve liver function.  Many other reported benefits include improvements in energy levels, metabolic disorders, allergies, cancer, digestive problems, candidiasis, hypertension, HIV, chronic fatigue and arthritis. It’s also used externally for skin problems and as a hair wash among other things.

Benefits of Kombucha

Kombucha contains lots of plant chemical polyphenols which are prebiotic. Foods which contain both probiotics and prebiotics are known as synbiotics. Kombucha is a synbiotic as it contains lots of probiotic bacteria, and prebiotic polyphenols.  Polyphenols are micronutrients that we get through certain plant-based foods. They're packed with antioxidants and potential health benefits. It's thought that polyphenols can improve or help treat digestion issues, weight management difficulties, diabetes, neurodegenerative disease, and cardiovascular diseases.

  • Aids digestion and nutrient up take;

  • Boosts Energy with enzymes and is a good source of B vitamins such as vitamin B12 (the Power vitamin) so is a good source for vegans and vegetarians;

  • Detoxifies the body with Gluconic acid & probiotics;

  • Eases Joint Pain and helps prevent arthritis with glucosamines;

  • Strengthens Immune System with Anti-oxidants;

  • Weight Loss with Acetic acid and polyphenols;

  • Fights Cancer with Glucaric Acid.

How to use

Because Kentish Kombucha is Raw and Unpasteurized (filtered to 37 microns) it will continue to ferment in the bottle.  This will result in a few things:

  • A build up of CO2

  • Formation of SCOBY’s (Symbiotic Culture Of Bacteria & Yeast)

  • An acidic PH level (Glucaric, Acetic and Gluconic acids)

Generally these cannot be avoided (acidity, between PH 2.95-3.15, is a good thing), but they can be slowed down by storing your Kentish Kombucha in the fridge.

If you are new to Kombucha, we suggest that you should limit yourself to 100-150 ml (half a glass) per day.

  • You will need to listen to your body as Raw Kombucha is powerful and does not agree with everyone.

  • DO NOT drink Kombucha if you are diabetic.  Kentish Kombucha contains approximately 55g of sugar per litre (1.57g per 8oz glass) and alcohol at 0.5-1.5% ABV. Consult your doctor before using.

  • If you have ANY adverse reactions that you are not 100% comfortable with then please STOP using Kombucha.
